What is the process for receiving healthcare in another country?
You probably have a lot of questions about getting the healthcare you need in another country.
At the Andes Clinic, we work with people from Canada, the United States, and around the world every day offering high quality care without wait times.
The Andes Clinic delivers life-changing procedures from Bogota, Colombia to international patients who do not want to wait for high-quality care.
While every patient is unique and has different medical needs, there are two things we hear about constantly from our patients looking for care:
If this sounds like you, you are not alone and our team in Bogota is ready to help.
Here is the 5 step process the Andes Clinic follows to get you the care you need on your schedule.
1 - The First Consultation
Meet with a member of our intake team. We will ask you some questions:
These first questions help us understand your unique healthcare needs and engage our team of surgeons and care professionals.
During this first consultation we will discuss next steps and answer any questions you have about the process.
2 - Meet Your Surgeon
When you are ready to proceed, we will schedule a paid virtual consultation with your surgeon.
They will review your medical history and diagnostic imaging, learn about your condition and the symptoms you are feeling, and provide their diagnosis and recommended care plan.
Your surgeon will also answer any questions you have about your condition, surgery, and recovery period.
The fee for this consultation with your surgeon will be applied to the total cost of your care with the Andes Clinic.
Following your virtual consultation with the surgeon, our team will send you a comprehensive and costed care plan to review with your loved ones.
When you are ready to proceed, we will schedule your surgery in Bogota.
You can work with our travel partner to book your travel and accommodations, or you can book flights and accommodation on your own, whichever is better for you.
3 - Arrival in Bogota
We recommend you arrive in Bogota two days before your surgery.
You are of course welcome to arrive sooner to experience Bogota’s rich culinary and cultural offerings. Our team will work with you to plan the best itinerary to meet your unique needs.
The day before your surgery our team will welcome you to the clinic to meet with your anaesthesiologist and surgeon. They can answer any questions you have and your customized care plan will guide you through the entire process.
We want to make sure there are no surprises so you can be as relaxed as possible and focus all your efforts on recovery.
4 - Surgery Day
Our team will provide detailed instructions for your surgery day. Some patients are admitted and remain in our care overnight, some are out-patient procedures who return to their accommodations to recover.
Your care plan and the best medical advice will determine what is best for you.
We will provide you with any prescription and pain relief medication you need for your recovery, and our physiotherapy team will help you begin your recovery right away.
5 - Recovery and Return Home
Our patients generally stay in Bogotá for 1–3 weeks after surgery.
This includes time for follow-up appointments with your surgeon and personalized recovery support.
Our team of physiotherapists, nurses, and personal support workers will assist you in your rehabilitation to ensure a smooth recovery.
Once you return home, we’ll remain available to address any questions and can collaborate with your local healthcare providers to support your continued progress.
The Andes Clinic will send you home with a detailed medical record for your family doctor so you can continue recovery and integrate back into your home country’s healthcare system.
Stay informed with our latest updates every week.
